Why Trade Up?
Fact Check
How much money does a tradie make?
It depends on the trade. Base salaries start around $60k per year and go anywhere up to around $150k for more experienced specialty managers.
Can I work anywhere in the world once I'm a qualified tradie?
In Australia, your trade qualification is recognised in every state. If you plan to work overseas in future, eligibility and skills transfer will be based on the trade you are qualified for and the requirements of that country.
In most cases, all trade skills are transferable, you may just have to complete additional training or qualifications specific to the country.
Do I have to buy my own stuff as a tradie?
Hi-vis / branded shirts are sometimes supplied by your employer, however in most cases you may have to buy your own hi-vis gear.
Any tools or safety equipment needed for your job will always be supplied by your employer.
You will need to purchase your own pants and any specialised footwear, depending on your trade. The good news is, it’s all tax deductible. You can even claim laundry costs, petrol if you have to travel in your own car to different locations and phone bills if you have to make work calls.
Talk to your accountant about what items you’re eligible to claim and they’ll sort you out.
